Thanks for your good wishes. Your comment ...Garce,

Thanks for your good wishes. Your comment made my day.

We're on the same wave length, of course, and I hope the Alley gets a critical mass of soul mates who want to stick around and hang out with each other occasionally.

I agree that honing your craft is really important. These days the industry is running focus groups to figure out what "look" their next artist should have, about as ass-backward an approach as one could imagine.

I hope you'll find the Alley attractive so we can continue the conversation!

- DavidDavid Greenenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-1114313005485169072011-01-23T08:28:11.714-05:002011-01-23T08:28:11.714-05:00Hi David!

I hope it turns into something big.

A lot of people, including me, share your view that the music just isn;t what it used to be. That may be just part of getting old, but most of what I hear doesn't knock me on my ass the way it did the first time I heard Jimi Hendrix on the radio or the way a new Beatles album was this huge event for my friends and I in high school, seeing who got it first and gathering in his room to hear it for the first time. It was almost a religous ceremony. The first time my kid heard Jefferson Airplane singing "Somebody to Love" he got that light in his eyes that says "Who ARE those guys?" just like when I was his age.

My opinion is that part of the change is the process by which the industry finds its stars. The Beatles became the Beatles by playing for violent drunken audiences in Hamburg strip joints and honing their voice craft learning how to get these people up and dancing. The Band played in dives and dance halls of Canada and the deep south for seven years before Dylan made them famous. Even Hendrix was a side man in several bands before he revealed his new sound. These people came from some where. I'm not sure that happens anymore in the age of Youtube.

GarceGarceushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11160407485298015371noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-9511443212999176892011-01-22T16:46:23.296-05:002011-01-22T16:46:23.296-05:00Lisabet and Kathleen: Thanks for your welcomes.
