And on the afterlife, I guess I do have my suspicions that whatever I come up with will be wrong :>) so I stick to generalizations when put it out there, but it does have to do with what Jean speaks to in her comment below. I would guess at death, we're absorbed into the the larger picture, whatever this is. Perhaps something akin to a collective conscious. Strange thing: ...A thought-provoking post, Daddy X. Strange thing: I've had transcendant (if that's the right word) sex in which I've really felt "at one" with the other person, but when I've tried to repeat it several years later with the same person, it hasn't worked. That element of Time seems to ensure that, in fact, none of us is really the same person we were in the past. And it's possible (at least in my experience) to be physically attracted to someone, but not to reach a certain higher level of communication. Re the existence of God, I'm resigned to being agnostic: if there is a God in some form, I'm probably not capable of recognizing or understanding Him/Her/It/Them. God might well exist in the connections among human beings, or in all of us collectively.Jean Robertahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08805088081675965859noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-87702425675227570742014-06-18T21:51:15.734-04:002014-06-18T21:51:15.734-04:00Hi Daddy X!
Wow, you covered a lot of things here...Hi Daddy X!

Wow, you covered a lot of things here. I think the part I'm curious about especially is the premise of 2 dimensional experience, and 3 dimensional and 4 dimensions. They say there are as many as 15.

It was raising carnivorous plants that made me think there are many levels and varieties of consciousness. Plants communicate with each other through chemicals and can even call in select predators to help them when they're being chewed on. And carnivorous plants have made elaborate intricate traps to catch bugs - which means they're aware of their environment, so there must be dimensions of experience we can't even guess at.

I'm curious to know what you think of the after life if any.

GarceGarceushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11160407485298015371noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-53270633304319496482014-06-18T21:07:16.853-04:002014-06-18T21:07:16.853-04:00I'll have to look into "The Heart of Man&...I'll have to look into "The Heart of Man". Sounds like a good one, Fiona.

Funny how people continue to espouse theories and elect people into office on issues that are bound to affect them badly. I think it's a fear of thinking for themselves, since the religions tell them humans aren't quite up to it. Uninformed people have deep suspicions regarding people they feel are smarter than they are. But then again, they're eager to believe in things easily disprovable. WTF?Daddy Xhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12927663248424944119noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-56762322536451527892014-06-18T17:39:30.310-04:002014-06-18T17:39:30.310-04:00I love to hear people speak of "Grokking"...I love to hear people speak of "Grokking" others. I want to jump up and yell, "I read that book! I feel like a "Stranger in a Strange Land" sometimes too!

As for previous experiences with experimentation, let's just say that sometimes it was just a physical high. Very rarely was it actually involving the mind/spirit, but when it was, it was truly significant and mind-altering.

I just finished Erich Fromm's "The Heart of Man" last night because it was due at the library. He discusses Narcissism as it applies to tribes, as in nations. And he also skewers the easily-led members of the lower middle classes who cling to a way of life that's long gone, abandoned by the rest of the world. I had never thought of how much having pride in nationality/country/skin color, etc. was a function of Narcissism...giving a sense of belonging to the lonely and scared among us, who crave something bigger than themselves to belong to.

How much better is it, to use your intelligence to find yourself like-minded individuals who also want to ponder the same questions you wonder about. Thanks to all of you, for providing that for me. Here I can think new thoughts, and discuss deep ideas that only some of my kids want to talk about. Thanks for that.

And Daddy X, I love your idea of our experiences being limited by our 3-dimensional existence that progresses linearly through time. I also wonder if there is something beyond our knowledge...I sincerely hope so, since it's such an exciting concept. Alas, having sat and held the hands of both of my parents as they took their last breaths, they didn't experience any last-minute epiphany that I could see. But I owed them both to have someone there to be with them to the end. It was profoundly sad, yet a repayment of an old debt. Of course, casual sex is not a replacement for the 'real thing', however you want to define that. But sex can be pleasurable in itself. I may not be able to dine in the best restaurant every night, but would enjoy my local diner as well. It's true that religion has played an enormous part in drawing individuals into communities, and, while the effect has all too often been and continues to be negative, we still need something that can do that. Maybe it's just that we're actually pack animals by nature. But these days we seem to be either too tribal or too fragmented from others.Sacchi Greenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10801164916418570059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-56290687820022642452014-06-18T12:47:10.588-04:002014-06-18T12:47:10.588-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.Sacchi Greenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10801164916418570059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-45148619735887331782014-06-18T12:20:33.192-04:002014-06-18T12:20:33.192-04:00I think it may be that at life's end, we let d...I think it may be that at life's end, we let down the psychic barriers we've set up to get through this earthly life. Certainly this reflects my experience. That's one reason why I can't seem to understand - or to write - sex that focuses only on the physical. I know some people like that - both to read and to experience - but the old bump and grind by itself has never done anything for me.

We've done a bit of swinging. Mostly it was a huge disappointment, because many of the people we met were looking purely for "recreational sex". We were seeking something more (or at least different), a personal connection that transcended the physical.

And it's funny, but for me it works the other way, too. I was with my mother in her final weeks until she passed away. Maybe it was wishful thinking on my part, but there was something like a portal to another state of being that opened from time to time and filled her and me with a sense of peace. It wasn't the place of judgment that we are threatened with during our 'religious' life.
