Now, personally, I'm used to thinking of "flirting" as playful banter (with mild sexual undertones of one kind or another) that isn't necessarily to be taken as any serious indication of sexual intentions; but in recent years I've wondered if that's becoming an outdated meaning of the term. When I see thirty-year-olds talk about "flirting," they seem to mean something that single (or poly, etc.) people do to break the ice and pursue possible involvement.
