And I was working as a software developer!

Garce -

As I recall, you had a haptic interface in the last story of yours that I read!

Justin -

I've heard of Rainbow's End.Thanks for the recommendation.

Actually, I think that things will be much further along than I suggest in twenty years of so (the rough time of this vignette, given the age of my niece now). I just couldn't really visualize how kids would interact with each other and the digital world. I wouldn't be surprised if Ellie's world comes into existence within the next half dozen years.

Thanks to all for your comments!

Warmly,
LisabetLisabet Saraihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05162514190572269660noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-38092749275562880532009-08-02T15:49:46.141-04:002009-08-02T15:49:46.141-04:00Loved this! I was 12 when we got our first computer, and it changed everything. Now we have 5 computers in our house, one I use for reading ebooks, and we have Wii. My kids don't know what life is like with out digital content.

When my oldest was a toddler, she was fascinated with my desktop computer, probably because I spent so much time on it. With the second, I wrote on the laptop while I nursed her, and she used to break off to turn over and see what I was doing. I wonder, if I get pregnant again, what child number three will recall from their very early days of life. The Wii? The netbook? Will I be reading e-books to my baby then?

Amazing how fast all these devices have come. Years without them, and then suddenly bam, bam, bam!Helenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10832774182683343435noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-9007289197897542152009-08-02T10:33:20.849-04:002009-08-02T10:33:20.849-04:00One more thing.

Her stuff seems so innocent even playfully silly compared to today, but back then it could land a publisher in jail. Amazing how things have changed in so many ways.

GarceGarceushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11160407485298015371noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-14361674801696884252009-08-02T10:30:37.238-04:002009-08-02T10:30:37.238-04:00Wow Lisabet!

You know I am.

Also I really liked the way you spelled out the mysteries of advances and publishing. My experiences with that are, alas, still very limited though I hope someday that will change. It was also fun to see a cover of your book Raw Silk which I've read but never actually seen.

goodgoodgood

GarceGarceushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11160407485298015371noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-59148805610180987242009-08-02T09:46:01.096-04:002009-08-02T09:46:01.096-04:00Hi Lisabet!

The technology and future depicted reminded me a bit of a near-future SF novel you might like called "Rainbow's End", by Vernor Vinge.Paul Weimerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02444942522624902562noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-86124154929136918852009-08-02T09:14:26.041-04:002009-08-02T09:14:26.041-04:00Thanks, Ashley!

I was fairly knowledgeable about sex when I was a pre-teen/teen, but I doubt that I would have been able to understand BDSM.

An interesting side note on this post: it turns out that on Amazon, people are selling copies of the "first edition" of Raw Silk for almost $100!

Cheers,
LisabetLisabet Saraihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05162514190572269660noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-29617085921929159902009-08-02T04:47:13.273-04:002009-08-02T04:47:13.273-04:00Hi Lisabet,
