Or is it easy for you?

I've never heard of "Man from Earth". My favorite scifi movies are "Gattaca" and "Strange Days" - partly because, like the books I mention, each is focused on the consequences and implications of a particular type of social/technological change.Lisabet Saraihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05162514190572269660noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-7434778979937160752011-12-19T06:32:54.921-05:002011-12-19T06:32:54.921-05:00Hey, Garce and Kathleen,

I think you can take it from any angle - but as you've both WRITTEN sci fi, that's what would interest me personally: your individual experience, the sources of your ideas, the challenges, the rewards, etc. And of course you could share some excerpts.Lisabet Saraihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05162514190572269660noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-6940502115280539332011-12-19T03:36:53.922-05:002011-12-19T03:36:53.922-05:00First of all, congratulations!!! ... Welcome to the club.

The thing about SF/F is that it's really such a broadly defined genre these days that just about anything written could possibly fit somewhere underneath it's umbrella.

On your excerpt. You've written a novel in this genre, therefore anything within its metaphorical covers is, by definition, SF!

There's a wonderful movie I blogged about a while back. It's called 'Man from Earth'. There are no aliens, spaceships, future technology, etc, and yet, it's pure SF.widdershinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04205462833259334647noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-64813856124646828422011-12-18T12:21:05.304-05:002011-12-18T12:21:05.304-05:00LIsabet - Like Garce, I find this subject so vast ...LIsabet - Like Garce, I find this subject so vast that I wonder where to approach it from. Actually I didn;t know you grew up reading science fiction, and we read a lot of the same writers. I remember when I was in high school "Stranger in a Strange Land" was a huge hit, a lot of my friends, who normally didn't read much, were reading it. Learning to "grok". As far as I know no one has made a movie of it.

I think Quanrantine is a wonderful book with a complex premise and you pulled it off really well. I recommend it to anyone.

Garce
(currently snacking on "Bad Romance" and "Rouch Caress")Garceushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11160407485298015371noreply@blogger.com
