There was even a spooky one on the acre of land that my father bought from a widow who owned 40 acres. Rumor had it that she lost her mind after losing her husband, and left the basement house full of furniture, crockery and clothes. (This part was true. I sneaked in through a broken window, but didn't stay long. I felt like an intruder, though no invisible person touched me.)
