I would totally buy the anal sex reference book, and I think the one about people named Elizabeth is also awesome. The Winchester house sounds incredible, and I love that idea, too. I hope you find the time at some point to work on one or more of these. (And even that is based on a slightly-altered version of human evolution, in which human mammals never lost that characteristic. Other primates have it.) I've also wondered whether a book about Sarah Winchester would have to be more of a biography or a life-and-times research project than a novel. Food for thought.Jean Robertahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08805088081675965859noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-6200025023924962742014-08-16T14:57:35.464-04:002014-08-16T14:57:35.464-04:00Daddy X, Spencer, Lisabet and Sacchi, thank you fo...Daddy X, Spencer, Lisabet and Sacchi, thank you for your comments. Re the rape story, I have a file of documents that I collected when my own daughter was 19 (same age I was in 1971). I had been rushed to the local hospital as an attempted suicide, and I was hoping that someone there might have noticed the bruises and bite marks that had no direct connection with my overdose of pills. (Plus I told the hospital staff what had happened to me.) If there was any documentation of all that, I hoped it might be enough to result in criminal charges under the new, liberalized Canadian federal sexual assault laws of 1983. (And there is no statute of limitations -- 50 years later, an ancient mess could be brought to court.) Unfortunately, the only mention of rape in the documents I could get is in the report of the first male psychiatrist, who mentioned that I claimed that my "boyfriend" had "forced himself" upon me. In general, this report makes me sound quite flaky. Among other things, the doctor claimed that my clothing was "old-fashioned," which referred to the jeans & knit tops that I usually wore in the psych ward. (He kept suggesting that if I dressed more fashionably, I could attract a new boyfriend and live happily ever after.) The paper trail I followed just doesn't seem adequate to result in criminal charges, let alone a conviction. However, it doesn't speak for itself. I think I will eventually write a narrative to go with my file, and keep it somewhere to be made public after my death. One question I would still like to have answered is whether Canadian hospitals & psychiatric institutions of the early 1970s had a written policy that claims of rape should automatically be intrepreted as signs of paranoia or delusion. I think that was the de facto policy, but finding written evidence would be interesting. Surely all institutions must have had policy manuals at that time, so this is something I might pursue -- but not for the purpose of writing a tell-all book.Jean Robertahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08805088081675965859noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-80931047442682253922014-08-16T11:06:32.556-04:002014-08-16T11:06:32.556-04:00The Winchester book might be very marketable, with...The Winchester book might be very marketable, with such a widespread recognition quotient. (I know there must be a better phrase to express that, but its not coming to me just now.) I wonder how much fictionalization you could get away with. The more the better, but are their family heirs who could object? I'm ignorant on such details.

Your rape story would actually be very timely these days, but painful to write and problematic on the family front. (My real middle name is Elizabeth, and Lisabet is of course a Semitic version thereof.)

The book about the alien has incredible possibilities, including, if you wanted to take it in that direction, plenty of humor.

I have frequent, recurring dreams about the Winchester Mystery House, though I only visited it once. It seems like the distillation of Victorian contradictions.

As for the book about your violation by the legal and psychological establishment, I agree that this is better left unwritten. It is, I think, an all too common story, despite the fact that its veracity would be challenged at every term.

I do so love your combination of imagination and erudition.Lisabet Saraihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05162514190572269660noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-5203817799755506442014-08-15T20:31:31.775-04:002014-08-15T20:31:31.775-04:00Jean:
I'm so sorry for your early experiences....Jean:
I'm so sorry for your early experiences. Some things are just so wrong and there is no way to make them right.

It's so trite but the character in my novella, "Bliss", Christina McArdle , is a composite of a group of women basketball players I coached in the late 70's. Many of them had been through your experience but at a younger age. As adults it came back to them as problems with intimacy.

Write the expose' it will be therapeutic even if it's never published.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15484640447109164744noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156334464585894857.post-34167784850299488772014-08-15T18:38:07.321-04:002014-08-15T18:38:07.321-04:00Sounds like the so-called professionals who treate...Sounds like the so-called professionals who treated you had different agendas in mind than righting a wrong, especially after the obvious mistakes. How awful for you not having the support of your family at least.

I'm amazed that your projects come to you so fully formed as you've shown us here. Or maybe I'm jealous.

I'm familiar with the Winchester Mystery House down by San Jose. Although I've never been there, I've heard lots about it from folks who have.
