God is Glue

by Daddy X

There is no god that exists apart from ourselves. There are no protective or vengeful entities watching over us, or for that matter, watching the universe. There is no otherworldly superior male or female deity.

But in reality, we don’t know it all.

An occupant of a two dimensional world would comprehend only what could be experienced in length and width. There would be no concept or effects of height. No up. No down. Nothing beyond a flat surface could even be imagined, let alone seen.  Perhaps that’s where spirits reside, in dimensions we can’t envision.

A three-dimensional being strolling through a two-dimensional world would be experienced by those within that 2-d world as a suddenly occurring/disappearing negative space in the shape of a footprint. To be more precise, it would be whatever shape is created by the intersection of a three dimensional creature. The entire two-dimensional world could travel up and down without the occupants being aware of the movement, except on some vague and uncontrollable level. Perhaps as the 3-d world experiences the fourth dimension—Time

We 3-d dwellers have a sense of the fourth dimension, but time runs in a realm out of our control. We are affected by time as it moves along its own trajectory, at its own pace. We don’t get to go back. A fourth dimensional being would have that control of traveling through time. Who knows? From their perspective, they may even get some hint of a fifth dimension that they can’t control.

There are tools, (as Lisabet mentioned last week) psychedelics—that open doors, through which we see, if only in glimpses, into other dimensions. When we were in an altered state, how familiar it all was! There always seemed to be a sense of:

“Hello? I’ve been here before. This is a state I’ve known intimately, earlier in my existence. This is the way it used to be—I used to be able to travel back and forth between this state and others at will—at one time, way, way back.”

Now, was that ‘way back’ in my infanthood? Before I was born? Before being distracted by the trappings of an earthly world? Could it be inherited memory? Collective memory of a species?   The answers lie within us; they are not things a superior being invented. Someday, we will learn the hard science of these phenomena.

This innate familiarity seems common among those of us who did acid, as well as under the more benevolent predecessors like mescaline or psilocybin. It’s not necessary to the conversation to argue which is the better trigger drug than the other. Point is that they opened doors, enabling us to experience the world differently.  We had peeks into other dimensions. We understood the why’s of things. We knew the wherefores. We understood how the universe comes together and how it operates. More importantly, we were made acutely aware that these truths were not ponderable, let alone accessible, within simple three-dimensional limitations.

There are obviously other doors to enlightenment than drugs. There are those who would use the denial of the flesh, such as fasting, isolation and other ascetic behavior to achieve a transcendent state. But that’s denial. What about excess?

What about flagellation, for instance?  Some Christian cults use that path to mysticism. Aficionados of BDSM will have much to say about the discipline, spirituality and ultimate spiritual freedom of submission and/or dominance.

But I won’t go into BDSM here.  I’ll leave that to those with experience in that realm. Having no knowledge, beyond pinking up a plump rump every now and then, I won’t pretend to wax philosophical about “the life.” I’d likely make a fool of myself, in both errors and assumptions.

What I will speak to is what I understand to be the true higher power. The confluence of human souls. Bonds of communication between people can be the most familiar of spiritual experiences.

Clearly there are many paths to spirituality. Others here have mentioned music, and I’ll take that a step further to include all the arts as potential doors to the inter-dimensional connections we human beings seek so passionately. Writers, as the grand communicators we hope to be, speak of the muse who brings us thoughts and ideas of which we ourselves have no experience. Where did those thoughts come from?

We become closer, more bound to each other when we converse. We get very much closer if we have sex. Some refer to the state as “becoming one”. Lovers who regularly experience simultaneous orgasms will know what I mean. Practitioners of Tantra will understand. Approaching sex as one of life’s little lagniappes can achieve altered states for those willing to try.

Compare that thinking to how most religions approach the subject—reducing sex to a simple need to be filled, or at worst, a nasty hunger to avoid, eviscerating the very spirituality from its natural home within us and tossing it off as trash.

Enlightened sexual travelers invite inter-dimensional shifting, exchanging, anticipating  partners’ desires, needs—intuiting paths to satisfaction. Opening themselves to levels of ecstasy and insights others can’t even imagine in their limited scope. People adamantly limited to the third dimension, working with 3-d values and concepts, will continue experiencing on a pedestrian plane.

The connection itself is god. Communication—is spirituality—is God—as glue. As human beings bond at any communicative level, thoughts, words and actions increase in strength at an exponential rate, become kinetic. Power attracts power, becomes common to collective consciousness.  Take for instance the (usually) negative phenomena of “mob mentality.” Communicative power weaves a fabric among us; it bonds human beings. Sexual confluence, in all its build-ups, pre-lims and variations, is one of the most powerful and commonly attainable paths toward higher communication. Perhaps the ultimate in communication.

Some call what is created “love,” one great door to sexual, intellectual, and spiritual bonding.

Now that’s creationism. Communicative creationism.

  1. Daddy:
Very well stated. Apparently all those mind altering drugs didn't have any dilatory effects. I was with my mother in her final weeks until she passed away. Maybe it was wishful thinking on my part, but there was something like a portal to another state of being that opened from time to time and filled her and me with a sense of peace. It wasn't the place of judgment that we are threatened with during our 'religious' life. I lack the words to convey it properly, but there none the less.

    1. I think it may be that at life's end, we let down the psychic barriers we've set up to get through this earthly life. Communicative flow may travel easier at deaths door. I've heard stories of those who had lost virtually all faculties come back to the present, clear-headed just before passing.

  2. "Enlightened sexual travelers invite inter-dimensional shifting, exchanging, anticipating partners’ desires, needs—intuiting paths to satisfaction." Certainly this reflects my experience. That's one reason why I can't seem to understand - or to write - sex that focuses only on the physical. I know some people like that - both to read and to experience - but the old bump and grind by itself has never done anything for me.

We've done a bit of swinging. Mostly it was a huge disappointment, because many of the people we met were looking purely for "recreational sex". We were seeking something more (or at least different), a personal connection that transcended the physical.

And it's funny, but for me it works the other way, too. When I meet someone whom I really "grok" (now that dates me!), an individual whose mind and soul captivates me, I will almost always feel sexually attracted to him or her as well.

    1. Casual sex has to be understood as casual by all parties before the deed(s) are executed. Of course, casual sex is not a replacement for the 'real thing', however you want to define that. But sex can be pleasurable in itself. I may not be able to dine in the best restaurant every night, but would enjoy my local diner as well. Although in my post, I'm referring to the highest planes of communication, I think sex can be enjoyed on many levels by intelligent folks of like mind. Is that a guy thing?

Energy runs in dimensions of its own making.

    2. Lisabet, I absolutely get sexually attracted to people who attract me in other ways. I spent a lot of my life assuming that was true for everyone, but it seems like maybe not? I'm still confused about that.

Also, I guess the word "grok" does date you, but I know it and am always happy to see it! It's a helpful concept and I don't know another word that describes the same thing.

  4. Beautifully said. I sometimes think that communication, community, and communion are linked by a sort of sixth sense (or seventh, or whatever.) It's true that religion has played an enormous part in drawing individuals into communities, and, while the effect has all too often been and continues to be negative, we still need something that can do that. Maybe it's just that we're actually pack animals by nature. But these days we seem to be either too tribal or too fragmented from others.

    1. Perhaps the American individualistic ideal has overshadowed our communal nature?
There could/should be more of a balance. Dangers lurk in the extremes.

  5. I love to hear people speak of "Grokking" others. I want to jump up and yell, "I read that book! I feel like a "Stranger in a Strange Land" sometimes too!

As for previous experiences with experimentation, let's just say that sometimes it was just a physical high. Very rarely was it actually involving the mind/spirit, but when it was, it was truly significant and mind-altering.

I just finished Erich Fromm's "The Heart of Man" last night because it was due at the library. He discusses Narcissism as it applies to tribes, as in nations. And he also skewers the easily-led members of the lower middle classes who cling to a way of life that's long gone, abandoned by the rest of the world. I had never thought of how much having pride in nationality/country/skin color, etc. was a function of Narcissism...giving a sense of belonging to the lonely and scared among us, who crave something bigger than themselves to belong to.

How much better is it, to use your intelligence to find yourself like-minded individuals who also want to ponder the same questions you wonder about. Thanks to all of you, for providing that for me. Here I can think new thoughts, and discuss deep ideas that only some of my kids want to talk about. Thanks for that.

And Daddy X, I love your idea of our experiences being limited by our 3-dimensional existence that progresses linearly through time. I also wonder if there is something beyond our knowledge...I sincerely hope so, since it's such an exciting concept. Alas, having sat and held the hands of both of my parents as they took their last breaths, they didn't experience any last-minute epiphany that I could see. But I owed them both to have someone there to be with them to the end. It was profoundly sad, yet a repayment of an old debt.

    1. I'll have to look into "The Heart of Man". Sounds like a good one, Fiona.

Funny how people continue to espouse theories and elect people into office on issues that are bound to affect them badly. I think it's a fear of thinking for themselves, since the religions tell them humans aren't quite up to it. Uninformed people have deep suspicions regarding people they feel are smarter than they are. But then again, they're eager to believe in things easily disprovable. WTF?

  6. Hi Daddy X!

Wow, you covered a lot of things here. I think the part I'm curious about especially is the premise of 2 dimensional experience, and 3 dimensional and 4 dimensions. They say there are as many as 15.

It was raising carnivorous plants that made me think there are many levels and varieties of consciousness. Plants communicate with each other through chemicals and can even call in select predators to help them when they're being chewed on. And carnivorous plants have made elaborate intricate traps to catch bugs - which means they're aware of their environment, so there must be dimensions of experience we can't even guess at.

I'm curious to know what you think of the after life if any.

    1. Hey Garce!
Yep, there's lots we don't know. And on the afterlife, I guess I do have my suspicions that whatever I come up with will be wrong :>) so I stick to generalizations when put it out there, but it does have to do with what Jean speaks to in her comment below. I would guess at death, we're absorbed into the the larger picture, whatever this is. Perhaps something akin to a collective conscious.

  7. A thought-provoking post, Daddy X. Strange thing: I've had transcendant (if that's the right word) sex in which I've really felt "at one" with the other person, but when I've tried to repeat it several years later with the same person, it hasn't worked. That element of Time seems to ensure that, in fact, none of us is really the same person we were in the past. And it's possible (at least in my experience) to be physically attracted to someone, but not to reach a certain higher level of communication. Re the existence of God, I'm resigned to being agnostic: if there is a God in some form, I'm probably not capable of recognizing or understanding Him/Her/It/Them. God might well exist in the connections among human beings, or in all of us collectively.

    1. Thanks, Jean.

It just don't hit the nail on the head all the time. Some people never. Conditions vary.

Even after fifty some years of boffing, the lovemaking between Momma and I is always varied in levels of intensity. All sorts of variables come into play between two people and the conditions. It wouldn't be as intriguing if were always perfect. Hehe. There wouldn't be any value in trying anything different. Wheeeee!

  8. Interesting too how one does not have to believe in a deity to holler words like Oh God, Jesus Christ, Holy Fuck and the like at the moment of climax.

    1. Heh, yeah, everyone seems to turn to spiritual language at those moments. Maybe we all actually worship at the altar of climax...

  9. You covered so much ground in this post that there's no way I can respond to it all. I'm glad for what you said about writers/the arts, though. That amazement at the appearance of words is one of my primary spiritual experiences.
