Daily Haiku

I've never been one to enjoy Haiku. Years ago, when I was younger, I'd make a show of understanding this beautiful Japanese poetry. I'd ooh and ahh because I didn't have the guts to just flat out say...um, I don't understand this. Maybe I was just an Emily Dickinson girl and Robert Frost made me shiver, made me think. I just don't get Haiku. Are we supposed to make sense of those seemingly disjointed words? Umm. Not me.

Lately I've been thinking there might be something to the whole "disjointed" and "disconnected" thing and I've figured out that life is sometimes a lot like Haiku and it's just a matter of putting everything together and trying to make sense of things. So while my friends are decompressing from a manic and wild Romantic Times convention I'm trying to get organized in both my everyday life and my writing career. It's tough and I've been known to make a list or ten of the things I'm trying to accomplish. Sometimes though it seems unknown forces can work against you and that's what's happening to me. Very frustrating.

Tempting Tess releases at Ellora's Cave on May 8 and I'm beyond thrilled about it all but in the meantime I'm struggling with a work in progress and promoting plus the other daily things and I'm starting to feel a need to decompress, too. Hm. Have you ever felt pulled in many, many directions? Felt frustrated about what to tackle first?

Join the club.

In the meantime, enjoy the Haiku if it's your thing. I think I'll stick with Robert Frost. Life is just too complicated and thinking too much give me a headache!

  1. Life haiku, huh? Yep, that's pretty much how life is over-all. A series of unrelated events to all lead to one inescapable conclusion.

  2. Yep. That's pretty much what I was thinking. Profound huh??? SNORT. LOL. It's just one of those days but at least my WIP is progressing nicely.

Remember once complaining to my father in law about a birthday. I said...GAWD,I hate having another birthday. He laughed and said....Well, the alternative is rather grim! SNICKER. I've never forgotten that or complained about a birthday since!

  3. Ah, I see. My little challenge scared you enough to get your muse talking, eh? Well, we'll reserve that challenge for next time.

  5. Wow, you're getting deep on us, Miss Regina. :) In college, I avoided poetry classes like the plague. I had more fun analyzing literature, although I did come up with a snazzy rhyming toast now and again. :)

As for the too much to do, not enough time, sweetie, you and I have talked about this. Something's gotta give around here, or nothing'll ever get finished. I hope you find your balance, or your meter, or get all your lines to fall into place, or whatever it is poets do. If you figure it out, please share.

I'll leave you with a haiku I wrote in 5th grade. There's no underlying meaning, not any meaning at all. But I hit the required syllables per line, dammit! And for some crazy reason, I can't remember to pick up toilet paper at the grocery store, but I haven't forgotten this stupid thing.

    It blossoms in the morning
    And brightens my day

  6. LOL. Funny what the brain can dredge up!!! LMAO. Hope you got a damn A for that one. And I know exactly what you mean...remember this wild, archaic stuff and forget the car keys as your heading out the door or as in my case...SHOES!!! I do that all the time. And honey, if I EVER figure out a quick-sure method of time and creativity management, I'll let you in on it.

    Hugs!
